Two missing Police Found Dead

Police in Adamawa has confirmed that the two Mobile Policemen declared missing on Sunday following an attack on three villages in Demsa Local Government Area of the state have been found dead.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Othman Abubakar, said on Monday in Yola that the men were found drowned in a River.
Othman, who did not give details, said the police were still hunting for the attackers and so far no arrest had been made.
The police had on Sunday declared three Mobile Policemen dead with two missing along with four rifles following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Kwayine, Gidan Dadi and Karlahi villages of Demsa local government area.
The MOPOL were among those drafted to contain tension in the communities after clashes that followed the killing of 47 cattle in the area.
Governor Muhammad Bindow had condemned the attack, which occurred less than 24-hours after a government delegation on peace building mission visited the area.
The governor in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, directed security agencies to deploy more personnel to the area.
He described the attack as unfortunate and sad especially coming after recent peace and confidence building efforts.
He said, “The Governor feels highly disturbed that after he had sent delegations on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday to interface with the different communities in the area, a clash could occur so soon thereafter.”
He assured residents of government’s resolve to restore peace to the affected areas and protect the lives of every citizen.
Bindow saluted the gallantry of the police in confronting the attackers and urged them not to relent until normalcy is fully restored.

Biafra-Kanu may be.....m..mm

VOX reported Namdi Kanu was arrested by secret police in Lagos in October 2015, nobody dreamed the affair would go on this long. He has been granted bail once, rearrested once and then remained in custody since then, despite court orders to release him.
Now there is another twist.
In December, Justice Binta Nyako granted the prosecution’s application asking the Kanu trial be held in secret. The charges against the Biafran separatist leader include criminal conspiracy and treason.
Protests in the southeast related to his detention have killed dozens of people, according to local rights groups.
Amnesty International said in November the military has sought to squash the movement, killing at least 150 pro-Biafra activists since August 2015. Police and security forces dispute that version of events, and have accused demonstrators of attacking them.
Witness protection

The state argues tha witnesses in this trial need to be shielded from intimidation and violence.
Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, rejects the thought.
“They have the security to protect their witnesses," said Ejiofor. Why are they afraid? We are also talking about the fundamental human rights of the defendants who are being falsely accused. So we want to see the people coming to give evidence against them eyeball to eyeball. There should be no form of shielding. It is totally unacceptable to us and we cannot take it.”
Kanu was the head of Radio Biafra, a banned independent station that advocated for the restoration of the Republic of Biafra.
Talk of Biafra can strike a sensitive chord in Nigeria. The issue dates back to 1967 when Igbo separatists seceded. By the end of a civil war three years later, as many as two million people are believed to have been killed, many from starvation.
Despite this painful past, the issue of self-determination for the southeast has experienced a resurgence, though the movement denies any connection to violence.
“This is an intellectual fight," noted Emma Powerful, the spokesperson for the Indigenous People of Biafra. "We are not going to carry any arms. And God has been there for us. We are not going to be violent. It is going to be an intellectual war. We must go. Either Biafra or death!”
President Muhammadu Buhari, who fought on the government side in the Biafran war, has ruled out independence for the region. In a statement in December, he called on activists to “have a rethink.”
If convicted, Kanu could face the death penalty.

Trump Cabinet to be approved by Senate

VoA report that Republican U.S. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell is telling Democrats to "grow up" and not put up any roadblocks to conformation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet picks.
At least seven Trump Cabinet nominees are expected to appear before Senate committees this week. They include secretary of state nominee Rex Tillerson, attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions, and would-be education secretary Betsy DeVos.
Some of Trump's Cabinet choices, including Tillerson and DeVos, are billionaires with vast financial holdings. And some Democrats say they have not been fully vetted.
McConnell appeared on CBS television's "Face the Nation" Sunday and accused the Democrats of sour grapes over the presidential election.
"All of these little procedural complaints are related to their frustrations at having not only lost the White House, but having lost the Senate. I understand that, but we need to sort of grow up here and get past that," McConnell told the broadcast.
He pointed out that Republicans gave speedy approval to many of President Barack Obama's nominees in 2009 even though they were "wildly liberal."
But it is not just Democratic lawmakers who are concerned about a lack of disclosure by some Trump nominees.
The head of the independent and non-partisan U.S. Office of Government Ethics, Walter Shaub, said in a letter to Democratic leaders last week that not all of the nominees scheduled for hearings have completed the required ethics review process or initial draft financial disclosure reports.
"I am not aware of any occasion in the four decades since OGE was established when the Senate held a confirmation hearing before the nominee had completed the ethics review process," Shaub wrote.
He said the hearings schedule has created "undue pressure" on his staff to rush through these reviews, leaving some nominees with unknown or unresolved ethics issues.
The law requires Cabinet nominees to get OGE certification of their financial disclosure reports before a hearing can be held.
"As long as I remain director, OGE's staff and agency ethics officials will not succumb to pressure to cut corners and ignore conflicts of interest," Shaub said.
Trump Chief of Staff Rance Priebus told Fox News Sunday the transition team has no thought of delaying confirmation hearings. He said the Democrats and the OGE have "all the details they need" and that the process has to move faster.

Oh God!!Suicide Bomber Kill 3 girls again

Self-defense fighters Wednesday killed three girl suicide bombers targeting a bustling market in northeastern Nigeria, civilian and military officials said. They blamed the Boko Haram Islamic extremist group for the attempted bombing. The civilian fighters who work alongside the army challenged the girls as they approached a village near Madagali town, local council chairman Yusuf Muhammad Gulak told The Associated Press. The girls began running at the checkpoint and the fighters shot the girl in the lead, activating her explosives and killing her and a companion, he said. The third girl tried to flee and was gunned down, Gulak said.Army spokesman Maj. Badare Akintoye confirmed the shootings, adding: “Our soldiers are on alert and commercial activities are going on” at the targeted market.Soldiers and civilian fighters have stopped many suicide bombers before they can reach heavily populated targets in recent months. But two women suicide bombers killed 57 people and wounded 177, including 120 children, last month at Madagali market, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the scene of Wednesday’s shootings.
Boko Haram has used scores of women and girls as young as 7 in suicide bombings that have killed hundreds this year. Some of the bombers are suspected to have been previously kidnapped.
A multinational force of troops from Nigeria and its neighbors has driven the Islamic extremists from most of the towns and villages where they had declared a caliphate to help create an Islamic state in Nigeria, a country of 170 million people divided almost equally between Muslims and Christians.
Nigeria’s president declared that Boko Haram had been crushed last month, but there’s unlikely to be a swift end to the suicide bombings and attacks on remote villages and army outposts.

Boko Haram’s 7-year-old Islamic uprising has killed more than 20,000 people, driven 2.6 million from their homes and created a massive humanitarian crisis that the U.N. says has 5.1 million people facing starvation.
